Tracfone Survey

When we first started this blog, Tracfone had not released any smartphones, and all phones from Tracfone could accept promo codes. Times have changed a lot since then, with more and more users switching to Tracfone smartphones or even bringing their own devices to Tracfone. We want to learn more about what our reader base is interested in learning from our blog!

We have created a short survey with twenty questions and would like to ask all of our readers to take a few minutes and fill it out.
We created this survey with three general goals:
  • Learn some basic information about our readers including some questions about Tracfone Wireless
  • Determine the most popular phones among our readers
  • Give our readers an opportunity to share ideas for future topics and what they want to read!
We are excited to give you, our readers, the opportunity to help shape the direction and topics of this blog for the future.
So, are you ready to take the survey? (Update  the survey is now closed)

Samsung Galaxy S6 Review

If you’re a Tracfone customer and looking for a phone that can handle lots of apps at once, can take great pictures, has a beautiful touchscreen and runs fast and smooth, you might be really interested in the new Samsung Galaxy S6 Tracfone recently released to use with their prepaid service.

The S6 is a newer phone, only just released to the public in 2015, and now it is also available from Tracfone. When it was released it was one of the best phones money could buy, and it still has the power to outperform the majority of smartphone devices.

The Galaxy S6 comes with a stunning 5.1″ touchscreen, a 16 MP camera, and Android 5.0 among other features.

For those who stay current on Tracfone news, you might be aware that Tracfone released the Samsung Galaxy S5 (the previous model of the S6) only a few months before releasing the S6, and they actually share a number of features like screen size and camera. We’ll do a comparison of these two phones a little further down, but first let’s look at the quick facts for the Samsung Galaxy S6

Samsung Galaxy S6 Quick Facts

The Good:
-Android 5.0
-Plenty of Internal Memory – 32 GB
-Plenty of RAM – 3 GB
-Powerful Camera – 16 MP

The Not So Good:
-Expensive – Currently $599 with minutes bundle

As you can see, one of the main drawbacks about the S6 is the price. You could buy an unlocked S6 and bring it to Tracfone’s BYOP agenda to save some money, but the phone is still retailing for $400-500. For more on bringing your phone to Tracfone, visit our Tracfone BYOP page.

Let’s get into the full list of features and phone specs for the Galaxy S6 to get a better idea of what it has to offer.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Features and Specifications

Below you can see the phone’s features, followed by the technical specs

  • Android 5.0 Lolipop
  • 4G LTE capable using Verizon CDMA Service
  • 16 MP Camera, 5 MP Front Camera
  • WiFi, Bluetooth and NFC
  • 4 Home Screens
  • Corning Gorila Glass 4
  • Access to over 1 Million apps on Google Play store
  • Triple Talk, Text and Data from Tracfone
  • Alarm Clock
  • MP3 Player
  • Voice Dialing and Handsfree Speaker
  • Hearing Aid Compatible
  • Voicemail, Caller ID, Call Waiting

Samsung Galaxy S6 Specs

  • Size: 5.65″ x 2.78″ x 0.27″
  • 5.1″ Touchscreen at 1440 x 2560 resolution ( 576 ppi pixel density)
  • 1.5 GHz Quad-core AND 2.1 GHz Quad-core Processor
  • 3 GB RAM
  • 32 GB Internal Memory (no external memory slot)
  • Battery: 2550 mAh (non-removable) with 29hrs Talk Time, 27 days standby

A couple of the phone’s specifications are really impressive, namely the fact that it has two quad-core processors and 3 GB RAM. That’s a lot of power packed into this device. Obviously it will be able to keep up with almost any app, and will be able to run multiple apps at once without any issues.

But there are a couple of things about this phone that may make it not such a great choice for some people, and we are going to go over that next.

Tracfone Samsung Galaxy S6 Review

What we Like:
We like to start off with the positives about this phone, of which there are a lot, and then we go over a few things that we don’t like.

which is available to use with Tracfone Tracfone Samsung Galaxy S6 Review
Samsung Galaxy S6 front, side and back

First off, the S6 comes packed with high-performing hardware – which is what you would expect from the flagship device. It has 3 GB RAM (more than any other Tracfone device at this time) which allows for more multitasking and more apps running at once without any issues. Phones with 1 GB of RAM or less tend to have trouble running several different resource-intense apps at once, but the S6 should have no issue. Combine that with the two processors, each quad-core for a total of eight cores (octa-core), and you’ve got a very powerful device.

If you’re looking for storage, the S6 also has you covered, coming with 32 GB of internal memory to hold apps, photos, videos, downloads and everything else.

The cameras on the Galaxy S6 are also impressive. The rear facing camera is 16 MP and has optical image stabilization (helps keep your images sharper) and LED flash. The front camera is 5 MP and both cameras have autofocus, touch to focus, auto-HDR, face detection and more. The built in camera app comes with a lot of extra features, including manual exposure controls which some photographers might enjoy using.

The rear camera on the S6 is quite good, and will allow you to capture vivid and detailed images of the world around you. Both the front and rear camera can record HD video, with the rear camera also capturing slow motion shots at 120 fps. You can view a gallery of beautiful images taken with the Galaxy S6 to get a better idea of what you can do with this phone.

Lastly, we want to share some additional details about the 5.1″ touchscreen on the S6 because it is worth talking about. The size is certainly not the largest (the ZTE Quartz has a 5.5″ screen), but it is the prettiest. The resolution is an amazing 1440 x 2560, which gives you a pixel density of over 575 ppi. To put that in real words, you get a screen that looks really good and is very clear. For some perspective, most Tracfone devices have a screen resolution of approximately 400×800, which leads to a pixel density of about 200 ppi. This isn’t bad, but the screen on the S6 will blow it away.

There’s more good things we could say about the S6, but we want to get to a few issues that may turn a few potential buyers away from it.

What we Don’t Like about the S6
There are a few things about the Galaxy S6 that should be considered if you’re planning to get this phone, For some, these issues may be enough reason not to get this phone, for others, it won’t really matter.

The first thing we don’t like is the price, but it’s hard to really complain about it too much since this is a high-end device. But Tracfone users tend to be very money-conscious, and few will be as interested in this phone once they learn about the $599 price tag.

Another issue some consumers may not like is that the battery on the S6 is not removable. So if something happens, or you just want to take the battery out, you can’t. Additionally, there’s no external card slot for a micro SD card. The amount of onboard memory is very good, but if you want to load up a bunch of music you have on an SD card, you won’t be able to.

And finally, the Tracfone version of the Samsung Galaxy S6 will probably not get any additional Android updates. So this phone will come with Android 5.0, but you won’t be able to update it to Android 6.0 when that becomes available for other S6 devices. (However, if you buy an unlocked Galaxy S6 and bring it to Tracfone BYOP, you will be able to update to the latest Android version.)

As we said, these are small issues with the phone that we thought should be mentioned for those considering purchasing this device.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 is a phone packed with modern features and it is hard to compare it to any other Tracfone device except one, the Samsung Galaxy S5. So that’s exactly what we are going to do in case some of our readers are considering which of these two devices to purchase.

(The Samsung Galaxy E5 is also an option , but has a lot less to offer, and we compare it to the S5 in our review of the Galaxy E5).

Tracfone Samsung Galaxy S6 vs S5 Comparison

One might assume that the S6 would be the clear winner in a comparison of these two phones since it is the newer model, but it is not as simple as that. The Galaxy S5 (link to our full review) actually has a number of features that somehow were left off the Galaxy S6 and may make it a better choice for some.

Hardware-wise, the S6 has the upper hand with 3 GB RAM (vs. 2 GB in the S5) two quad-core processors (vs one quad-core processor in the S5) and 32 GB memory (vs 16 in the S5). The Galaxy S6 also runs Android 5.0 while the S5 will only use Android 4.4. The touchscreen size is the same between these phones, but the S6 has better resolution (more pixels packed into the screen) and has Gorilla glass 4 (vs Gorilla glass 3 in the S5).

Both the S6 and S5 have a 16 MP rear camera with similar features, but the S6 uses a 5 MP front camera while the S5’s is only 2 MP.

However, the S5 has several great features that were not passed on to the new generation. The Galaxy S5 is IP67 certified, which means it is dust and water resistant. You can put the S5 up to 1 meter below the surface of the water for up to 30 minutes and there should’t be any issues (obviously we don’t recommend testing this too much yourself, but there are plenty of videos on YouTube where other people thoroughly test this).

The battery on the S5 is a little larger (2800 mAh vs 2550 mAh on the S6) and it is removable, which is important to some users.

The Galaxy S5 also has a Micro SD card slot, up to 128 GB, which allows you to store a lot more information.

Changes to the interface for the S6 leave users with less customization options (making the S6 a little more like an iPhone) which in some cases might be preferred.

At the end of the day, these phones share a lot of features, but each have certain strengths. One jawaban consideration is that the Galaxy S5 is currently $100 less expensive than the S6.

Which phone is better? Hard to say, the S6 wins in performance and hardware, but the S5 has some important features that could be deal-breakers and we really like that it is dust and water resistant.

Conclusion and Where to Buy the Samsung Galaxy S6

The Samsung Galaxy S6 is the best phone available from Tracfone (at this time) and is a high-end phone that you can use with inexpensive prepaid service. But the cost may be a be roadblock for many users who are interested in this phone.

Keep in mind that Tracfone has a number of other devices coming soon, including several mid-level LG smartphones with Android 5.1.1.

You can purchase the Samsung Galaxy S6 from HSN.com where it is offered with a bundle of minutes worth $100, plus extra accessories. We will update if the phone is released elsewhere.

Remember to verify you have CDMA service in your area (check on the Tracfone website) before you buy.

You can view the Tracfone Tutorial for the S6 to learn more about it, and learn how to use it.

Tracfone Promo Codes for April 2016
It’s April, which means spring is here (or for some, just around the corner), and it also means we’ve got updated promo codes to use with Tracfone!
You can use these coupon codes when adding airtime cards to your Tracfone prepaid device. Each code is for a specific airtime card, but can also be used with cards of greater value. For example, you can use the codes for a 60 Minute Card with the 120, 200 or 450 Airtime Cards (the 1 Year/400 Minute card and codes are the exception).
There are lots of ways to add airtime, and one of the easiest is to simply go onto the the Tracfone website and add your new airtime card there, where you can usually test more than one code.
You can find prepaid airtime cards in many places, including on the Tracfone website, and in many retail stores.
Remember that promo codes won’t work if you have a smartphone, which includes devices on the Tracfone BYOP program. These phones already get triple talk, text and data, so Tracfone must not want to give out any more bonus minutes.
We recently reviewed two new smartphones which may interest some, as these are the most powerful Android devices Tracfone has ever released. Take a look at our Review of the Samsung Galaxy S5, or the somewhat cheaper Samsung Galaxy E5. Both feature lots of internal memory, and great cameras.
Below you can see the newest codes we’ve collected that are working for April, 2016. You can also visit our main Tracfone Promo Code page where we include many more codes to test and use.

Tracfone Promo Codes for March 2016

Note, promo code for 60 and 120 minute cards is only working for some users.

60 Minute Card use promo code 12745 and get 60 bonus minutes

120 Minute Card enter code 55313 to receive 30 free minutes

200 Minute Card use 12745 for 60 minutes or 55313  for 30 extra minutes

Why Do You Use Tracfone? – Survey Results

Results from our Survey about Tracfone and our Readers

A few weeks back we created survey for our readers to take to help us get a better idea of who our readers were, what they are interested in, and ways we can improve the blog. We received over 260 responses in about a week, and a lot of helpful information.

We want to share some of the more pertinent pieces of information from the survey with our readers as we found it very interesting and thought you might as well. You can go back and see the original post about the survey here, but it is no longer possible to take the survey.

We will start by just looking at the first five questions from the survey, as they are more generalized.

Question 1 – How Long have you been Using Tracfone?

In the first question of our survey we wanted to get a better idea of how long people have been using Tracfone. We were quite surprised that the majority of respondents to the survey (55%) had been using Tracfone for six years or more. Another 30% have used Tracfone for three to five years.

Results from our Survey about Tracfone and our Readers Why Do you Use Tracfone? - Survey Results
How Long Have You Been Using Tracfone?

Just 3% of respondents have been using Tracfone for less than a year, which leads us to two possible conclusions:

  • Most readers on this blog are ‘savvy’ consumers and long-term Tracfone customers
  • Tracfone Isn’t attracting many new customers

We believe both statements may be partially true. Apparently America Movil, Tracfone’s parent company, did lose almost half a million subscribers in the US during the first quarter of 2016 according to an article on FierceWireless. Tracfone and Safelink were where most of these subscriber  losses occurred, but America Movil also owns Straight talk and several other prepaid cell phone companies. Overall, America Movil has over 26 million users in the US across all their MVNO brands.

So, while Tracfone hasn’t had the best year so far, we expect they are doing fine, and will be working hard to attract more new customers (hopefully with new and improved smartphones).

Question 2 – Why Do you use Tracfone?

To help understand what is important to our readers, we asked, ‘Why do you use Tracfone?’. The answers were fairly consistent with what we expected, with the most popular answer being the low cost.

Take a look at the graph below for the full breakdown.

Results from our Survey about Tracfone and our Readers Why Do you Use Tracfone? - Survey Results
Why do you Use Tracfone?

Some of the ‘Other’ responses included those who use Tracfone for multiple reasons, like low cost and low use.

With the majority of people choosing Tracfone because of the low cost, we have to wonder why Tracfone released the expensive Samsung Galaxy S5 and Samsung Galaxy S6. But perhaps they are just trying to appeal to the small segment of consumers who are willing to spend on a high-end device, but still want to use prepaid service.

It does look like Tracfone will be releasing several new mid-level Android LG phones which should appeal to more customers.

Question 3 – What is your Biggest Complaint about Tracfone?

Tracfone is a low cost cell phone carrier, and as such, they seem to skimp when it comes to certain things like customer service and quality. We see a fair number of comments on the blog with various issues and so we wanted to get a better idea about what the most common complaints about Tracfone were.

Lack of Smartphone options was actually the biggest complaint, with poor customer service coming in second. You can see the top four in the chart below.

Results from our Survey about Tracfone and our Readers Why Do you Use Tracfone? - Survey Results
Biggest Tracfone Complaint

We were pleasantly surprised by the number of ‘Other’ answers which mostly consisted of people responding that they didn’t have any complaints about Tracfone.

The remaining 11% of our survey respondents choose Problems with Phone, Roaming Issues, Airtime Lost/Stolen or BYOP Problems as their biggest complaint.

Question 4 – Is your Tracfone Device your Primary Cell Phone?

Results from our Survey about Tracfone and our Readers Why Do you Use Tracfone? - Survey Results
Primary vs Backup Phone from Tracfone

We often see consumers who use Tracfone just as their backup or emergency phone, and not for everyday use. So we were curious about how many people use their Tracfone device as a primary phone versus a secondary or backup.

As it turns out, the majority of respondents use Tracfone as their primary phone. About 23% reported that they use it as a backup.

As Tracfone continues to offer newer phones we suspect more will switch to using Tracfone as their primary device. However, for those who need to make frequent calls or texts (or use data), using some kind of unlimited cell phone plan makes better economical sense.

Question 5 – What Type of Phone do you Currently Use?

Results from our Survey about Tracfone and our Readers Why Do you Use Tracfone? - Survey Results
Most Popular Type of Phone from Tracfone

We asked this question about what type of phone customers currently use not only because we were curious, but also to help us do a better job tailoring the content towers our readers.

We were somewhat surprised to see that 65% of our survey respondents use a smartphone from Tracfone. This does make a lot of sense, as Android phones from Tracfone offer lots of neat features (like Android OS) and there are a lot of great deals for buying phones and minutes bundled.

An almost equal number of respondents use either a non-smartphone from Tracfone or the Tracfone BYOP program.

This concludes our breakdown of the survey results. We may may create another post with analysis of some of the other questions in the future. We want to thank everyone who participated in our survey and helped provide the responses.

We are excited to continue to work at delivering information to our readers and the survey results have already helped.

Tracfone Sales and Deals List

We all love to find a good deal on things we want to buy, and Tracfone devices are no exception. But it can be challenging to keep up with where to find the best deals on Tracfone phones – both because they are offered through a lot of retailers, and because the price usually decreases the longer it is out.

Here at , we monitor and keep up with a lot of the phones and prices, and we want to share the best deals and discounts we have found with you. Prices do tend to go up and down, so we try to create a new list each month.

Tracfone offers both smartphones, and non-smartphone devices to use with their prepaid service. There are several important differences, which you can read about in our post, 6 Major Differences between Tracfone Smartphones and Non-Smartphone Devices.

We aren’t including any phones in this list that would be used on Tracfone BYOP, but there are a lot of cheap smartphones available on Amazon, eBay and other sources that you can bring to Tracfone. Visit our Tracfone BYOP page to learn more, and view a list of compatible phones.

Now let’s get to the list of deals on Tracfone devices!

Tracfone Deals, Discounts and Sales List for April 2016

The following deals are in no particular order, and highlight a variety of different devices that are priced below their typical cost.

LG 306G – 7.99

The LG 306G is the only non-smartphone in our list, but it still comes with a 3.2″ touchscreen. This phone is one of the best options for those who don’t want to change to an Android device. One of the main benefits of keeping a non-smartphone deice is that you can still use promo codes when adding new airtime cards.

Take a look at our review of the LG 306G to learn more.

You can find the LG 306G on Amazon

LG Ultimate 2 – $59.99 or bundle for $89.99

LG Ultimate 2

The Ultimate 2 was released a little over a year ago now, but it still performs well as a smartphone with a 4.5″ touchscreen, Android 4.4, and 5 GB internal memory for storing things.

You can view our full review of the LG Ultimate 2 and learn more about all the features it offers.

If you’re looking for just the phone, at $60, it’s a pretty good deal and about the lowest we’ve seen anywhere. But if you really want a great deal, get the phone bundle from HSN which includes a 1 Year/400 minute airtime card worth $100, plus other accessories, all for just $90.

Find the LG Ultimate 2 on Amazon for just the phone, or the bundle on HSN for $89.99

LG Sunset – $79.99 or bundled fr $99.99

When the LG Sunset was released it was the first Tracfone smartphone that had 4G LTE service. That, along with 8 GB internal memory and Android 5.0 make it a great smartphone for many people, and it still comes in at a fairly reasonable price.

Take a look at the LG Sunset Review to see full spec and features for this phone.

As with the Ultimate 2 above, you can get the LG Sunset in a bundle from HSN that includes a 1 Year/400 Minute airtime card worth $100. You can also get the phone by itself on amazon.

LG Power

LG Power – $59.99

The LG Power is very similar to the LG Sunset, except it doesn’t come with 4G connectivity and it uses CDMA service instead of GSM. But other than that, the Power does include a 4.5″ touchscreen, 8 GB memory, and Android 5.0.

You can view our review of the LG Power to learn more about this device and see lots of user comments.

Find the Power on Amazon for $59.99 which is the lowest price we’ve seen for this phone, and $60 less than what Tracfone.com was selling it for.

Bonus – Tracfone Airtime available through eBay and BestBuy.

Tracfone airtime cards are widely available online and in stores. But in many places you will end up paying a few extra dollars in taxes, especially on the Tracfone website. But, for some, you may be able to buy through eBay or BestBuy and not have to pay any extra fees. The airtime itself is not discounted, but you buy it without any additional costs and it is then mailed to you within a couple of days.

List of Apple iPhone Devices coming to Tracfone

Update 9/16 – Tracfone has released the iPhone 5S, 6 and 6 Plus for use on their prepaid network. See the links below to learn more.

For several years now consumers who wanted to use an iPhone with Tracfone had to go through the BYOP program. But that appears to be changing as Tracfone may be releasing several Apple phones in the near future!

List of Apple iPhone Devices coming to Tracfone iPhone 6S Plus and Other Apple Smartphones Coming to Tracfone
Apple iPhones are Coming to Tracfone

A number of new smartphones have shown up on Tracfone’s tutorial site where they list interactive tutorials for current and future phones. Among the new phones listed are several Apple iPhones, including the latest and greatest model, the iPhone 6S Plus

We recently shared details on a number of new LG and Samsung Smartphones Coming to Tracfone, which you can check out to learn about those new phones, and Tracfone has already released several of them, including the LG Treasure and Samsung Galaxy S6 (follow the links to see our reviews of these phones).

Along with the Apple iPhones coming to Tracfone, there are a number of other phones from ZTE, Alcatel and Huawei also listed. We’ve already seen the ZTE ZMAX 2 available on HSN. We’ll be working at sharing more information on these phones soon!

Let’s take a look at which iPhones will be coming to Tracfone.

Apple iPhone’s Coming to Tracfone:

There are at least six iPhones coming to Tracfone and they are the following:

  • iPhone 5S – Now Available (learn more)
  • iPhone 6 – Now Available (learn more)
  • iPhone 6 Plus – Now Available (learn more)
  • iPhone 6S
  • iPhone 6S Plus
  • iPhone SE

Instead of just one or two options, Tracfone appears to be delivering all of Apples smartphones going back to the 5S, which is the oldest model in this list. We are really impressed that Tracfone is going to be offering so many options, and we want to quickly cover some of the differences between the iPhone models listed above.

Size comparison for iPhones

The iPhone 6 brings a number of improvements over the iPhone 5S, most noticeably a screen size of 4.7″ while the 5S only has a 4″ screen.  When comparing the 6 to the 6S, there are more subtle changes and improvements. The camera on the 6S features 12 MP and can capture 4K video while the 6 is only 8 MP. Both the iPhone 6 and 6S have a 4.7″ screen.

The 6 Plus is just about the same as the 6, but with a larger, 5.5″ touchscreen that also has a higher resolution. The 6S vs the 6S Plus has the same setup, with the 6S Plus using a 5.5″ screen.

The last phone in the list is the iPhone SE, which was released about the same time as the 6S and shares various parts from the 6S, 6 and 5S. The SE has a 4″ touchscreen, the same size as the 5S, but offers better resolution. It comes with the same fingerprint technology as the iPhone 6, but also has the same 12 MP camera as the 6S, which is one of the best in any smartphone.

While the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus may be the most impressive of the new Apple phones, the iPhone SE coming to Tracfone is what we are most excited about. Why? Because it is a ‘budget’ iPhone with most of the performance and features of the 6S, but with a much lower cost. An iPhone 6S retails for $649 for the 16GB version, while the iPhone SE starts at $399.

Buying one of these new iPhones from Tracfone isn’t going to be cheap, and we suggest that those who are on a tight budget, but still want an iPhone with Tracfone, consider buying a refurbished iPhone on eBay and bring it to Tracfone’s BYOP program. You can currently get a refurbished iPhone 5S for $189 on eBay. (It seems unlikely any of the Tracfone iPhones will retail for less than $200, and the iPhone 6S will be closer to $700)

Not all Tracfone customers are willing to try the BYOP program, which is why it is so exciting that Tracfone is releasing these Apple Smartphones. We know that for many, the BYOP aktivitas is just too confusing, or they don’t want to deal with trying to find a compatible phone. Tracfone has made improvements to they BYOP aktivitas over the last year, but there are still occasional issues our readers report about phones that just won’t work for one reason or another.

Buying an Apple smartphone directly through Tracfone will likely be much easier, although any long term Tracfone customer knows it is not always easy with Tracfone.

Tracfone is really speeding up their process for introducing new phones to use with their prepaid service, and we will be doing our best to keep you up to date with the latest news.

Tracfone Promo Codes – May 2016

New Tracfone promo codes are here for May along with warmer weather and Mother’s Day! (Happy Mother’s day to all the Mom’s out there!)

These promotional coupon codes from Tracfone are used when adding a new airtime card to get additional minutes for free! You can get 40-300 extra minutes, depending on which airtime card you are using.

For the best value, the 1 Year/400 Minute card should be your choice because you also get an extra 300 minutes using the bonus code listed below! But not everyone wants to buy a full year of airtime, so we’ve got you covered with other codes as well.

Promo codes are for specific airtime cards, but can also be used with any card of greater value, besides the 1 Year/ 400 Minute card. For example, a code for the 60 minute card can also be used when adding a 120 minute card, 200 or 450 card.

Those who have smartphones cannot use promotional codes unfortunately, but you do get to enjoy using a powerful device with inexpensive prepaid service, and you can also buy only texts for your phone if you need to.

We recently reviewed the Samsung Galaxy S6 which was just released to Tracfone, as well as wrote about several new LG and Samsung Devices coming to Tracfone soon. Take a look at these posts if you’re thinking about switching to a smartphone, or looking to upgrade.

The codes below are just the newest we’ve collected for the month of May, but you can see our full list of codes on our main Tracfone Promo Code page.

Now, let’s get to these new promotional codes!

Tracfone Deals and Discounts June 2016

Tracfone offers a number of different cell phone options that consumers can purchase to use with Tracfones prepaid service. These phones, including plenty of smartphone options, are available from a wide variety of sources, which can make it hard to know where to buy from, or where to get the best deal.

Here at , we spend a lot of time keeping up with the latest developments, and we usually see where to find certain phones for the cheapest.

In general, Tracfone devices are cheaper if you buy them on Amazon, eBay, HSN or other retailers rather than the Tracfone website.

Below we are providing some of the latest deals and discounts we have found on Tracfone cell phones.

We are also including a couple of unlocked smartphones that could be used with Tracfone BYOP if you’re interested in going that route. With Tracfone BYOP, you can get a much more advanced phone compared to those offered by Tracfone, at a great price. Please note, while the phones we recommened below should work with Tracfone BYOP, you have to enter the phone’s ESN or MEID to be sure. To learn more about bringing your phone to Tracfone, visit our Tracfone BYOP page.

Now, let’s get to the list of deals!

List of Tracfone Discount Phones and Other Deals

Below are a collection of great deals on Tracfone devices, as well as some phones you could bring to BYOP. This list is in no particular order, and these are just some recommendations of phones at good prices.

1. Samsung Galaxy Core Prime on HSN for $89

This CDMA (Verizon) smartphone has a 4.5″ touchscreen and comes with Android 4.4. It isn’t the latest, but offers some really great features and performance, especially for the money. Take a look at our full review of the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime to learn more.

With this deal from HSN, you get the phone plus 1200 minutes and 1 year of service (a 1 Year/400 Minute card tripled) for just $90. The airtime alone is worth $100, making this a really great deal, even if you just want to airtime. You can always give the phone to someone else to use as a WiFi device, or activate it.

View the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime on HSN.

2. Alcatel Onetouch Sonic on Amazon for $20

The Sonic features a 4.6″ touchscreen and is capable of 4G speeds using GSM networks (AT&T). It uses Android 4.1, and only has about 2 GB usable memory. See more specs and details in our review of the Alcatel Onetouch Sonic.

We don’t recommend this phone unless you plan to use it for very little beyond calling, texting and surfing the web or email. But at the price of just $20, it might be a good option for a backup, a phone for kids, or just a WiFi device. It is a better choice than the Alcatel Onetouch Pixi, which retails for $10-20.

Find the Alcatel Onetouch Sonic on Amazon.

3. Tracfone LG 306G on Amazon for $7

When the LG 306G was released by Tracfone it was one of the most advanced phones a Tracfone users could get, but that was several years ago. Now, it is a fairly outdated phone, and doesn’t have the Android OS, meaning you can’t install apps. However, if you’re looking for a phone to use for calling and texting, the LG 306G does that very well. See our full review of the LG 306G to learn more.

At just $7, this is the cheapest Tracfone you can buy if you just want a phone, or need a backup option.

4. Samsung Galaxy S5 (for Tracfone BYOP) on Amazon for $162

The Samsung Galaxy S5 has a ton of great features. Most notable is the 5.1″ touchscreen, 16 MP camera, and 16 GB of internal memory. The phone comes with Android 4.4.2, but can be updated to 5.1, and perhaps even 6.0.

This unlocked smartphone can be brought to Tracfone’s BYOP program. The main benefit of buying this unlocked is the much cheaper price. The Tracfone Samsung Galaxy S5 currently retails for $499. But you can get this unlocked (and refurbished) Galaxy S5 for just $162. View our Review of the Tracfone Samsung Galaxy S5 to see more specs, and understand your options.

View the Samsung Galaxy S5 on Amazon.

5. iPhone 5 (for Tracfone BYOP) on eBay for $119

The iPhone 5 has a 4.0″ touchscreen, 8 MP camera and uses Apple’s operating system which has access to many apps in the Apple App Store.

This version of the phone uses GSM technology. As some of you may know, Tracfone will be releasing a variety of iPhones to use with their service, including the iPhone 6S. Visit our recent post, New iPhones coming to Tracfone to learn more and see the latest. We don’t know when the phones will be released, but it is very likely they will be expensive, closer to $500.

So if you want an iPhone on Tracfone, but don’t want to spend the big money for it (or wait), buying an unlocked iPhone to use with Tracfone BYOP may be your best option.

You can get the refurbished iPhone 5 on eBay for $119

That concludes our list of Tracfone deals and sales for the month of June, we hope this help you find the best deal when buying a new phone.

Review of the LG Treasure (L51AL) from Tracfone

Welcome to , a blog with information, reviews and promo codes for Tracfone. Below is our review for the new LG Treasure. We hope you find the information helpful!

Below is our review for the new LG Treasure Tracfone LG Treasure L51AL Review
Tracfone LG Treasure Review

The LG Treasure is a mid-level (compared to other Tracfone smartphones) Android 5.1 powered phone newly available to Tracfone prepaid customers.

Tracfone is beginning to release phones at a faster pace, with several new devices becoming available over the last month (including the ZTE ZMAX 2, Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime, and Samsung Galaxy S6). We are excited to be bringing to you today our review for the LG Treasure for use with Tracfone Wireless.

The LG Treasure is basically the Tracfone version of the LG K7, which was just released earlier in 2016. Tracfone has now also released several more LG phones in this lineup, including the LG Rebel and LG Premier. For more on these other phones, visit our post, New LG/Samsung Phones Coming to Tracfone.

The LG Treasure is a budget smartphone that still comes with a large screen and some great features. Many Tracfone customers are looking for smartphones that fit into the budget phone category and won’t break the bank.

The question many users might be wondering is if this phone is worth upgrading to from some of Tracfone’s older smartphone options. We’ll try to answer that a little further on, but first let’s look at the quick facts for the LG Treasure.

LG Treasure (L51AL) Quick Facts

The Good:
-Android 5.1.1
-5″ Touchscreen
-5MP Front and Rear Camera
-Reasonable Price – currently $99 from HSN.com

Not So Good:
-only 4GB useable space
-somewhat smaller processor – 1.1 Ghz

At first glance, this phone appears to deliver some great features for the price, but it does neglect a few things, like internal memory and processing power. But you can’t really expect to get a high performance phone for a low cost, unless you buy a used/refurbished phone and bring it to Tracfone’s BYOP program.

LG is one of the largest companies in South Korea and produces a wide range of products sold across the globe. They are also one of the largest mobile phone manufacturers, and have a diverse lineup of phone options, including their new flagship phone the LG G5 which features the latest version of Android, v 6.0.1 marshmallow.

The LG phones released by Tracfone to use with their prepaid service won’t have quite the same performance features as LG’s flagship, but they also won’t cost as much.

Let’s take a look at the full list of features and specifications for the LG Treasure.

LG Treasure (L51AL) Features and Specs

Below are the phone’s features, followed by the technical specifications

  • Android 5.1.1 Lolipop
  • 4G LTE service using AT&T’s GSM Network
  • 5MP Front and Rear Camera
  • WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1
  • Access to over 1 Million apps via Google Play store
  • Alarm Clock
  • MP3 Player
  • GPS capability
  • 2 Home screens
  • Voicemail, Voice Dialing
  • Handsfree speaker

LG Treasure Specs

  • Size: 5.65″ x 2.85″ x 0.35″ Weight: about 5 oz.
  • 5.0″ Touchscreen at 480×852 resolution (196 ppi Pixel Density)
  • 1.1 Ghz Quad-core processor
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 8 GB Memory (about 4GB Useable) MicroSD card slot
  • Battery: 2045 mAh with Talk time 9hrs, Standby 11 days

A quad-core processor combined with 5″ touchscreen and Android 5.1 is a very nice collection of features that make the Treasure a desirable option for many people. But what about the 4 GB of usable internal memory, is that too little?

Let’s get into our review of the LG Treasure from Tracfone with our pro’s and con’s for this device, followed by a quick comparison to some of the other similar devices available from Tracfone like the LG Sunset and LG Ultimate 2.

LG Treasure Review – Likes and Dislikes

What we Like about the Treasure
There’s quite a bit to like about this phone. After all, it is a newer device built to be budget friendly while still maintaining some great features

Below is our review for the new LG Treasure Tracfone LG Treasure L51AL Review
Tracfone LG Treasure front, side and back

We really like the screen size, the dual 5 MP cameras, and that the Treasure runs Android 5.1.1. We also think this phone is a great value at the current price.

The LG Treasure comes with a 5″ touchscreen, which is about the average size these days for a smartphone device. The resolution isn’t the best, at 480×852 pixels, but LG did a really great job on making this screen bright and clear.

When taking pictures with the LG Treasure, you will notice that it has a 5 MP rear camera and 5 MP front camera. This gives you fairly good image quality for taking selfies or other photos. The rear camera also has an LED flash, while if you are taking photos with the front camera it has a neat feature that lights up part of the screen to act as a flash in low light situations. It is unusual for a budget smartphone to have such a high resolution front camera, and we hope this isu terkini continues.

The volume and power buttons are located on the back of the phone, which may be more convenient for some users, and keeps the edges of the phone free from any buttons. This is great for those of us who tend to accidentally hit the buttons on the side of phones when trying to hold them.

Tracfone devices, unlike most unlocked phones, do not get Android OS updates (it has something to do with compatibility issues, and Tracfone would have to be involved in making sure the updates worked properly, but they don’t currently want to do this) so it is nice to see that the LG Treasure comes with Android 5.1.1, which is a newer version that doesn’t have some of the vulnerability issues previous Android versions had.

Finally, we are really happy with the overall value of the LG Treasure as it is currently offered by HSN bundled with an airtime card worth $100, and the whole bundle is going for $99, making the phone free. If you need airtime anyway, you might as well upgrade to this phone. But before we get too far ahead of ourselves, lets look at a couple of concerns we do have.

What we Don’t Like about the Treasure
There are two main concerns we have about the LG Treasure and we want to mention to help our readers before they buy this phone.

First, the LG Treasure only comes with 8 GB internal memory, of which, only about 4 GB is actually usable (the other 4 GB is used by the OS and pre-installed apps). For many users, this won’t be a big deal because most of Tracfone’s other smartphones, like the LG Sunset and LG Ultimate 2, have a similar amount of internal memory. Just keep in mind that you can’t load this phone up with too many photos or large applications. Some apps can take up a full GB of space, so you would run out quickly.

The LG Treasure does come with a Micro SD card slot, which allows you to use up to 32 GB of external storage. This is great if you have a lot of music or other files you want to add.

The second concern we have is with the processor performance. The Treasure comes with a 1.1 Ghz quad core processor. This is more than enough power for everyday apps like Facebook, Instagram or calling/texting. But if you want to running larger, resource intense apps like certain games, you may run into performance trouble. The Treasure does have 1 GB RAM, which is average, yet overall we think the average user won’t have any issues with performance.

That concludes our likes and dislikes, let us know in the comments if we missed anything, or if there are certain features you like/dislike!

Update – initially it appeared that the LG Treasure would have 1.5 GB RAM, but it urns out to only have 1 GB RAM.

LG Treasrue compared to LG Sunset and LG Ultimate 2

The LG Treasure is similar or an improvement over the LG Sunset and LG Ultimate 2 in almost every way, which makes sense since it is much newer. The improvements, however, are generally only small improvements.

Compared to the LG Ultimate 2, the Treasure comes with a larger screen (5″ vs 4.5″) a better processor (quad-core vs dual-core) better cameras (5 MP front and rear vs 5 MP rear camera and 1.3 MP front) and more internal memory (8 GB vs 5 GB). The LG Treasure also comes with Android 5.1.1 versus 4.4 which the Ultimate 2 come with. These improvements are noticeable, but not huge. If you are currently using an Ultimate 2 and considering upgrading, the Treasure would probably be a little faster and have a little better performance overall.

One important piece of information to note is that the Ultimate 2 is a  CDMA phone that uses Verizon towers while the Treasure is a GSM phone that uses AT&T service. So be sure to check your coverage before switching.

The differences between the LG Sunset and Treasure are a little less noticeable, but still exist. The LG Treasure has a newer processor but slower speed (1.1 Ghz vs 1.2 Ghz) a larger screen (5″ vs 4.5″) slightly newer Android OS (5.1.1 vs 5.0.1) and better front camera (5 MP vs 1.3 MP). They both have a quad core processor, 8 GB internal Memory and 4G LTE service using AT&T cell towers.

The LG Treasure is an upgrade over the LG Sunset, but we might only suggest you upgrade if you are also in need of the airtime that comes in the bundle. Otherwise, you might want to want and see what other phones Tracfone releases in the coming months.

Overview and Where to Buy the LG Treasure

The LG Treasure brings great features including a 5″ touchscreen and Android 5.1.1 at a very reasonable price making it a great upgrade from older Tracfone smartphones.

It doesn’t have the performance to match some of Tracfone’s other recent releases, like the Samsung Galaxy S6, but it also is significantly cheaper.

You can find the LG Treasure bundled with a 1 Year/400 Minute airtime card (and other items) on HSN where it is currently on sale for $99.

You can also view Tracfone’s Tutorial to learn more about how to use this device.

There is also a CDMA version of this phone which we expect to be released sometime in the near future.

Below is the latest news about several smartphones coming to Tracfone in the near future New ZTE and Nexus Smartphones Coming to Tracfone
New Smartphones coming to Tracfone

Tracfone is getting busy releasing new smartphones for consumers to use on their prepaid service and we are excited by a number of new mid-level phones by ZTE and Alcatel that will be coming to Tracfone.

We’ve already covered some of the new LG and Samsung phones that are coming soon, and some of these phones are already available such as the LG Treasure, LG Rebel, LG Stylo 2 and others.
Tracfone is also releasing a number of different Apple iPhone devices, including the iPhone 6 and 6S. Follow the link to learn about these high-end smartphones.
Here we will be sharing news and some basic features/specs about a variety of mostly ZTE merk smartphones, but also some new Alcatel and Huawei (Nexus 6P) devices, that Tracfone will be offering to consumers in the near future.
Some of these phones are actually already available, including the ZTE Lever, ZTE Whirl 2, ZTE Stratos and others.
Tracfone is offering these smartphones through several different channels, with some phones only available on the Tracfone website, others through retailers like BestBuy and WalMart, and a number of Devices only available through HSN.com.
ZTE, Alcatel and Huawei are all Chinese mobile phone manufacturers, with each one offering a wide range of devices. Some of the phones below are very inexpensive, but don’t have great features. But several devices do look quite good, and come at a reasonable price. Let’s take a look.

New ZTE, Alcatel and Huawei Devices Coming to Tracfone – 2016

We will look at each of the new phones, listing some of the key specs and features and information about availability.

ZTE Scend Z791G

The Scend is a GSM device that comes with a 4.5″ screen, Android 4.4 and 4G connectivity. It isn’t overly exciting, but should be available for a reasonable price. It appears to only have about 2 GB usable memory, which may be a serious drawback for some.

Link to Tracfone Interactive Tutorial

Availability: Briefly available from various retailers, current availability unknown.

ZTE Citrine Z716G

Featuring only a 4″ touchscreen, the Citrine makes up for it with Android 5.1, 4G LTE, quad-core processor and 8 GB internal memory. It uses GSM networks, which will be AT&T through Tracfone.

Compared to the Scend, the Citrine is better in just about every way if you don’t mind the smaller screen. It is also currently available for just $29 through Tracfone.

There will also be a CDMA version of this phone, the Z717C.

Link to Tracfone Interactive Tutorial

Availability: Currently available from Walmart for $49 or available from Tracfone for $29. Will likely be available from other retailers as well.

ZTE Lever Z936VL

Here’s a phone that caught our attention, the ZTE Lever. It has a large, 6″ touchscreen, 16 GB internal memory, an 8 MP camera, and uses CDMA technology. The only drawback is that it appears to run the older, Android 4.4.

The Lever is retailing for $179, which also includes 1200 minutes and other add-ons. If you’re looking for a large screen, this has pretty good bang for your buck. The other option might be the LG Stylo 2 which was just released (also on HSN) and has a 5.7″ touchscreen.

Link to Tracfone Interactive Tutorial

Availability: Currently available from HSN.com for $179 with minutes bundle.

ZTE Paragon Z753G

The Paragon comes with a 4″ touchscreen, Android 4.4 and a 5MP camera. Most of the features on the Paragon are not overly exciting, and it is similar to the ZTE Scend. The Paragon is the GSM version of the ZTE Zypher, which was released in 2015 and we already reviewed. Go check our review if you want to learn more, the only difference between these phones is which network they will use (CDMA or GSM).

Link to Tracfone Interactive Tutorial

Availability: Currently available on the Tracfone website for $29.99.

ZTE Whirl 2

Another Budget friendly smartphone, the Whirl 2 comes with Android 4.3, a 3.5″ touchscreen, and 3 MP camera. None of these features are all that impressive, but it does have a quad-core 1.2 Ghz processor. This smartphone has one of the smallest screens, but might be a good option for those who just need a phone for making and receiving calls.

It is hard for us to find a reason to recommend this phone, other than the fact that it is small. So if you really want a small device, this could be an option. But at $40, there are several phones that are slightly better for a similar price (the Paragon listed above), or some phones that are better for a little more money (like the ZTE Stratos below).

Availability: Currently available on the Tracfone website for $40

ZTE Stratos Z819L

The Stratos is a phone we really like, because it has enough ‘good’ features that will make it very usable for most people, while still available for a good price.

What kind of features? Well it comes with a 5″ touchscreen, Android 5.1, and a 5 MP camera. The Stratos also has 8 GB internal memory and has 4G LTE using CDMA networks.

The ZTE Stratos is currently on sale for $79 from HSN and comes with 1200 minutes – worth $100 by itself. If you’re really interested in this phone, you should act quickly, as the price will probably go up to $99 soon.

Link to Tracfone Interactive Tutorial

Availability: Currently available from HSN.com with airtime bundle for $79

ZTE ZMAX 2 Z955L

The ZTE ZMAX 2 is another smartphone that comes with some great features. It has a 5.5″ touchscreen, Android 5.1 and an 8 MP camera. It uses 4G LTE through GSM networks and has 16 GB internal memory.

It is a bit more expensive than the Stratos, listed at $149 with airtime bundle from HSN, and it is currently out of stock. But it should be for sale again soon.

Link to Tracfone Interactive Tutorial

Availability: Currently out of stock, listed for $149 from HSN

Alcatel Onetouch Pixi Eclipse

The Pixi Eclipse has a 4″ touchscreen, Android 4.4 and a 2 MP camera. It is a budget friendly phone that is low on any exciting features. For most people, some of the other more powerful phones listed above, will probably be a better option.

Availability: Currently available on the Tracfone website for $39.

There are several other Alcatel smartphones that appear to be coming sometime in the near future and have better features. We will update as we learn more.

Huawei Nexus 6P (H1511DL)

Here’s a phone some Tracfone customers will be very excited about. When we first saw this phone listed on the Tracfone tutorial site, we didn’t recognize it because it was listed as the Huawei H1511DL. But after some quick digging we realized it was the Nexus 6P.

You might be asking, so whats so special about the Nexus 6P? Well, it comes with a number of great features, like a 5.7″ touchscreen, 12 MP camera, 3 GB RAM, and much more. It is also special because Huawei made the phone in a partnership with Google, and Nexus phones generally come with less pre-installed apps and other annoying things.

All this will likely come at a cost, and we suspect the Nexus 6P from Tracfone will be listed for somewhere around $500. If you really want this phone with Tracfone, but don’t want to pay the price they will charge, you might be able to find refurbished options for less, and bring it to Tracfone’s BYOP program.

Availability: The Nexus 6P is currently not available from Tracfone, but we will update as soon as more news is available.

That concludes this list of phones coming soon, and already available. We will be working hard to continue updating with the latest news and details.
